Adult Education

Christian Appalachian Project - There has always been a direct correlation between poverty and high drop out rates in schools. In the majority of our service areas, less than 50% of the head of the households have a high school education. CAP believes strongly that education is key if families are to move out of poverty and develop the skills and resources needed for self-sufficiency.

In its commitment to adult education, CAP expended a significant per cent of available donations each fiscal year on programs that help people to increase their educational levels and learn new skills. CAP approaches adult education from three different directions in its attempt to provide educational opportunities to adults. The Adult Education/School On Wheels program provides classes on literacy and GED in both classroom settings as well as in the home of individuals who are unable to travel to the school sites. Parents, whose children are enrolled in CAP Child Development Centers, participate in activities geared toward family literacy and educational growth.
